The rooms at Agriturismo Fontenuova

I got a basic room in the Il Borghetto area and it was perfect for a weekend away.

The room is small with everything you need – a comfortable bed, bathroom, kitchenette, Wi-Fi, sofa, and air conditioning. It’s a basic room that doesn’t require too much explaining but it was comfortable, clean, and well equipped.

One thing worth mentioning is that it’s such a peaceful area. If you’re looking for a relaxing break, this is where you want to be. Here you can sit outside with a cool drink and listen to the sound of birds nearby or the sheep in the distance.

Michela welcomed us to the agriturismo and made us feel right at home. She is a friendly and helpful host who had great suggestions for things to see and do in the area and was always available if we needed anything.

Free parking is available onsite just a few steps from the rooms.

Breakfast with a view

As far as I’m aware, breakfast was a little different from usual while I was visiting because of COVID restrictions. When I stayed we had different foods and had the meal in the room instead of at the buffet area.

However, I can still say that breakfast on the terrace with a view of the Tuscan countryside was a beautiful way to start the day and I looked forward to it each morning. You can even try some organic fruit fresh from the farm.

The regular buffet area also has a gorgeous view – you really can’t go wrong with views in Tuscany.

What I think is most special about breakfast is the homemade cakes that add a special touch to the experience and they are simply delicious! I tried banana bread, crostata, and apple cake during the visit and they were all 10/10.

Since the room had a kitchenette, I also liked to make pasta in the room and eat it out on the terrace in the evening. I got supplies like pasta, truffles, and mushroom salsa from the nearby Coop and it makes for a delicious and easy dinner after the day walking up and down the Tuscan hills.

Things to do on the property

One of the highlights of staying at this agriturismo in Saturnia is that there is so much to do on the property, which is convenient for families.

If you like hiking, there are trails all over the property. They’re well signed and there’s also a map in your room to help you navigate them.

We took one trail down to swim in the nature pools one day and had the whole place to ourselves for an afternoon swim!

There is also a pool and a children’s playground near the rooms which was a popular spot for families. Mum and dad can relax on the sun chairs while the kids burn their energy in the pool.

The popular Saturnia Thermal Pools are only 10 minutes away and are a must-see while you’re visiting. The location of the agriturismo makes it easy to get there for sunrise to enjoy it without the crowds. I wrote a full review for planning a visit and what to expect at Cascate del Mulino here for more information.

You also have the town up the hill where you can find shops, restaurants, and more gorgeous views.
