PCS From Hawaii To Italy – The Katie Show Blog Has Moved

UPDATED MAR 2020. Good morning friends! You may have seen on Instagram this week that The Katie Show Blog has now moved. What? Moved? Yes, that’s right. I have just completed an overseas PCS from Hawaii to Italy. Here’s an update on what’s happened over the last few weeks and what to expect in the future.

PCS From Hawaii To Italy – The Katie Show Blog Has Moved

A big update after The Katie Show Blog moved home base in an overseas PCS from Hawaii to Italy. Here's the update and what to expect next.

UPDATE: After 4 years in Italy, I created the Ultimate Vicenza Bucket List with day trips, 4 day weekend ideas, leave block plans, and events. If you’re moving to Vicenza, download your copy here to make the most of your time there.

Living in Hawaii was a dream

It’s crazy to think that I don’t live in Hawaii anymore because that island paradise was home for me.

It’s somewhere that becomes part of you if you are open to it, and it definitely became more than simply a place for me. The landscapes, people, nature, lifestyle, wildlife, and adventures were an absolute dream and I am proud to say that I lived it to the fullest.

As my flight departed the island, I left with no regrets, no sadness, just a whole lot of gratitude.

There were so many people who made my time in Hawaii great. Too many to count actually. I will forever be grateful for them as well as the opportunity to live in such a beautiful place.

Even though I love the island, I believe that life is not meant to be lived in one place, and am very ready for new challenges, new cultures, and new adventures.

A new chapter in Italy

So now our new chapter has begun here in Italy. So far, it’s really pretty. I am loving the food, the flowers, the Italian accents, the long days, and the sense of history in everything around me.

The driving scares me a bit, but hopefully, that is something I can shake once I start practicing. Eeek even writing that made me nervous!

There is a lot I need to learn that comes with living in a new country which, like when I moved to America, is overwhelming at first but little by little I will keep learning and improving until I feel less out of place. Please keep me in your thoughts.

I know this PCS from Hawaii to Italy was a bit of a surprise because I didn’t make a heap of announcements (or any for that matter) prior to moving and there are a couple of reasons for this.

Why I didn’t announce the move beforehand

Without making big announcements or drawing attention to the fact that I was moving, I was able to use my time that was left in Hawaii to focus on the people who consistently made time for me, with a quality over quantity approach.

Instead of having to share my limited time with many people who I didn’t see regularly anyway, I was able to spend good quality time with those who did. I found this to be the best way for me to finish up my time on the island. Why is it that we wait until someone is gone/going to make time for them anyway?

Hopefully, there is a lesson somewhere in there for us to make the most of people while we have them around us.

Another reason is that it was a very last-minute move and the details were constantly changing. We were given one month’s notice to move, which was then extended out almost another month after some paperwork didn’t come through in time. Even if I did want to announce it, I wouldn’t have known any details.

Plus I had a busy time getting myself and my dogs ready to move. I found that it was much easier for me to get all that sorted then announce it after the fact instead of having to answer even more questions of ‘when are you leaving?’ with ‘I still don’t know.’

Now that we are here what next?

Well first, I need to organize a place to live because living in a hotel room with the two dogs is a tad stressful for me. Once we are all settled in our new home you can expect some new posts coming your way.

I would love to write more about the move and share tips of getting through the PCS process (trust me, it’s not as hard as people make it seem), travel tips, adjusting to your new home.

Of course, I want to post about our Italian adventures once we get a good chance to get out and about to explore.

If there is anything you want to see on the blog or know more about, just leave me a message in the comments so I know what sort of info would be helpful. That’s what I’m here for after all.

I LOVE Italy, definitely one of my favorite places to visit because there’s so much to see. Can’t wait to see and hear about all of your Europe adventures.
