The logistics

Gozo Pride conveniently offers pick up and drop off for many hotels as well as the ferry to Gozo.

I was picked up from my hotel – the Corinthia Hotel at St George’s Bay, and taken to the ferry port for the trip to Gozo.

We were running early for time and the driver offered to take us to the Popeye Village to pass some time before the ferry. He really didn’t have to do this. His role was only to drop us off at the ferry and he could’ve let us wait at the port a little longer. Instead, he gave us a bonus that I was so grateful for because I didn’t think I’d get time to see the Popeye Village during this trip.

I knew I had picked the right company to go on a tour with.

Once we were dropped off at the port we just waited for the Ferry across to Gozo.

There was no tour staff with us for this section of the tour but it was very easy to figure out which ferry to get on and a lot of ferry staff around to ask.

When we arrived on Gozo, the Gozo Pride Tours guys were waiting out the front with signs for each of the tours.

Perks of a Gozo Jeep Tour

There’s not much better than sitting in the back of the Jeep with the breeze flowing through your hair while you cruise around an island, right?

That wasn’t the only perk though, I also loved that we were able to see more of the island because the Jeep could navigate all sorts of terrain.

After going all around the island on this tour, and seeing where the buses couldn’t go, I think the Jeep is definitely the best choice.

Steep, bumpy, narrow, off-road, back roads, main roads – we could do it all and with an unobstructed view. Being able to get off the beaten track a little also allowed us to see some stunning viewpoints!

They also offer full and half day quad tours if that’s more up your alley.

Add a personal touch to your tour

If you want to add more meaning to your day, pick up a copy of my latest book “Your Vacation, My Office” before your tour.

It profiles people who work in travel around the world and one of the tour leaders, Maurice, is featured. You’ll learn what it’s really like to run tours on Gozo with travelers and be inspired by his perspectives. Most of all, it’ll add insight and meaning to your tour experience.

What to expect

You really couldn’t ask for more when it comes to the sights you get to see in one day.

I saw everything from a red sand beach, scenic landscapes, churches, temples, visit a local store where we could try local products (my favorite was the prickly pear liquor) and even had time for a three-course lunch and boat tour over the most stunning, clear and bright blue water I have ever seen.

My two favorite spots on the tour were seeing where they make sea salt and learning about that process and, of course, being out on the water.

I can’t describe just how bright and beautiful the water around Gozo is. It’s completely mesmerizing.

We finished the day off with a speedboat ride around the famous Blue Lagoon before heading back to the main island.

For me, I was so glad to have done the tour because I would’ve have been able to see as much on my own. Better still, I appreciated seeing it all with someone teaching me about it all along the way.

Local knowledge

I love to support local companies when I travel.

It’s a huge passion of mine and I love to be able to share them here on my blog even more.

More importantly, I also think it’s our responsibility as travelers to give back to the area we are visiting and support people who call it home.

When you support a local business, I think you get a lot back from it too. In this case, it was like we had a friend who lived on Gozo and he was showing us around his home – very similar to how I felt on my tour in Iceland with BusTravel Iceland.

Instead of only getting information that we could’ve Googled, we got great local insight to all of the places we visited.

My tour leader was Maurice and he told us about life on Gozo, history of the sights, traditions, how the island has changed in his lifetime and, as you would expect, he knew his way around like the back of his hand.

What I loved most was the passion he had for his home. He lit up as he shared stories about his favorite places and took great pride in sharing it with us. In this way, I got to see the island through his eyes which made for a much richer experience.
