Why You Should Use A Glass Straw By Glass Dharma

UPDATED MAR 2020. Before last week I didn’t know I needed a glass straw. Then, the video of the scientists who removed a plastic straw from a turtles nose went viral. In case you missed it, click the photo below to be taken to the video. Did it make you sad? It definitely made me sad. Watching the turtle suffer for such a senseless reason was extremely heartbreaking and frustrating. It made me want to do something.

You can make a difference. Here's why you should use a glass straw and ditch the plastic for good.

I know there are so many issues in the world and worthy causes fighting against them asking for our help.

Sometimes, when you are just trying to do good and help make the world a better place it can be very overwhelming and leave you with a sense of helplessness.

As if there are just too many problems and you are only one person.

It’s such a huge task to keep track of all the causes that ignite your passion, but once you know about them it’s harder to forget isn’t it?

It’s hard to drink your soda through the plastic straw without picturing the turtle’s face once you have seen that video.

Don’t stress, this issue is a really simple one of supply and demand. If we as customers stop demanding – using – plastic straws, then there will no longer be a need for supply.

This is why I was so grateful to find Glass Dharma.

They offer a way for me to do my part to help the Earth by saying no to plastic straws and offering an alternative – the glass straw.

Saying no to plastic is easy when the glass straws are this cute and come in a range of sizes, shapes and even straws with colored dots or inspirational words engraved in them.

You can order them online individually or in sets and they will be delivered to your door in a couple of days – mine were here in 3 days.

They are as eco-friendly as they are trendy and come with a range of benefits.

Why you should use a glass straw

It’ll help the Earth

Plastic straws are one of the most commonly found plastics at the beach along with plastic bags and plastic water bottles.

Using a glass straw will help to reduce the detrimental impact of one of the main culprits of plastic waste.

You can also help in other ways by using an eco-friendly water bottle that you can refill instead of buying more plastic bottles and using reusable shopping bags instead of plastic.

Using a glass straw is healthy

You can drink with confidence knowing that you are not ingesting the toxins that come from plastic.

It’s not only yourself that is being kept healthier, by using a glass straw the toxins aren’t finding their way into the ocean for wildlife to consume.

They are decorative

They are cute so why not display them? Put them in a glass or small vase and leave them out in the kitchen.

Not only will it look great, but it will also be there as a reminder for you to use them.

Why you should use a glass straw

The glass straws won’t break easily

In terms of durability, you can put them in hot and cold drinks as well as the microwave and dishwasher.

They are made from borosilicate glass which is the strongest glass that is commercially available. Just in case they do break, you have a lifetime guarantee.

They’re easy to clean

You can also purchase a cleaning brush (which I highly recommend) so that you can keep your straw clean from the inside and in tip-top shape.

Especially necessary if you drink a lot of smoothies or iced coffees.

You can support American made

You can support American made products with your purchase.

Why you should use a glass straw

YOU make a difference

Every time you use your glass straw, it is one less plastic straw that will end up in the ocean.

You will use your glass straw so many times that YOU will be making a big difference in a small action that is part of your everyday life.

Be a hero

I love the beach and am lucky enough to enjoy a lot of time in the ocean. I believe that it is a two-way street. The ocean provides me with many magical memories and for this, I owe a debt.

I need to return the favor by doing my part to take care of it.

In the words of Timber Hawkeye ‘we can’t blame society, we ARE society.’

I purchased one and am so happy that I have already saved the world from 480 plastic straws (at least) because I use my glass straw at least 3 times a day. It is VERY durable and the fact that it comes with a lifetime warranty is reassuring. This is truly a worthwhile purchase. The large diameter is great for smoothies with chia seeds or chunky of fruit/protein powder/etc that would clog a normal diameter straw. I plan on giving these straws as gifts come Christmas time. What a great product!

I did see that turtle video and it definitely hurt my heart, so hard to watch! I’m definitely going to get myself a couple of straws, I pretty much use them all the time when I’m drinking any beverage.
